SAY NO TO FIREWORKS!

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department reminds you that not only is the possession and discharge of any fireworks, including Safe and Sane, illegal in the City of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo, but are very dangerous to one’s self and property as well. Any violators of this city ordinance will be charged with a misdemeanor offense.

Decades of tragic experiences have proven that fireworks are too dangerous to be used by the public. More than 8,800 Americans are treated in hospital emergency rooms for injuries associated with fireworks; with over half the injuries being burns to the hands, eyes, and head. Annually, fire departments responded to more than 25,000 fires started by fireworks alone. Even harmless looking fireworks can be dangerous. A burning sparkler can reach temperatures of 1200 degrees Fahrenheit and stay hot for a long time.

For a fun and safe experience, Fourth of July firework shows should be enjoyed at public displays, presented by trained professionals.
